In ‘The Trip to Harvard‘, Lorelai confesses to Rory that she wishes she could love Max… something she’ll later say to Christopher. Seems she has trouble with loving people (and realizing it). But, that aside, Lorelai later explains to Luke why she left town and the thoughts she had while away:
“These past few days… so many thoughts about my life then. My life now. What I missed. Thoughts about what I’ll never have. And what I want to have.”
Lorelai tells Luke she wants to open her own inn – now. What I wanted to know was – did Lorelai realize this after she had left Max, or before? Did she think her life would stop once she married Max? Did she see her dream falling apart? If not, what was it on the trip that triggered Lorelai’s dream of the Inn again? Was it the realization that Rory would soon be off to pursue her own dream (which is now Harvard)?
